Navigating Structural Decay for a Gulf View
The salt air of the Florida coast had taken a heavy toll on this beachfront property. We found that the original galvanized fasteners had corroded, causing the entrance joists to detach entirely from the home.
This structural failure led to a collapsed deck, which prevented the homeowners from safely using their rear door or enjoying their waterfront view.
How did we solve the problem?
- Logistics & Assembly: Access to the site was limited to a narrow sidewalk, so we established an assembly line to move heavy debris out and new materials in efficiently.
- Creative Engineering: To reach the failing frame, we engineered a custom pulley system to hoist a heavy hot tub out of the way.
- Building Without Compromise: Following our “zero compromise” approach to coastal durability, we shored up the structure with Simpson stainless steel joist hangers and fasteners to prevent future salt-spray decay.
- Advanced Material Selection: For the new surface, we installed Owens Corning WearDeck in “Barefoot Sand” for its heat-reflective properties and longevity in high-exposure environments.
- Restoring the View: We completed the project with Trex Select composite handrails and aluminum balusters, restoring safe access and unobstructed views of the Gulf.
