Layout Planning & Composite Construction
The Challenge: An Underused Backyard
A Lynn Haven homeowner had a backyard that was not living up to its full potential. An old deck sat behind the brick home, but the space did not serve the family’s needs. The homeowner wanted an inviting outdoor area large enough to host the whole family.
The Approach: Homeowner Consultation and a Custom Layout
The biggest challenge on this project was figuring out the best layout for the space. Our crew consulted with the homeowner to understand how the family planned to use the backyard, then created a design that fit their lifestyle. The work moved through several phases:
- Old Deck Removal: Crews removed the existing deck to clear the way for the new build.
- Layout Design: Working directly with the homeowner, our team planned a deck sized for family gatherings, with steps connecting the deck sections and leading down to the yard.
- Trex Select Decking: Trex Select composite deck boards form the walking surface. Composite boards do not need staining or sealing, which keeps upkeep low.
- Trex Select Handrails: White handrails with black balusters line the deck’s edges, adding safety and a clean contrast against the brick exterior.
- Recessed Deck Lighting: Trex recessed lights built into the steps and fascia provide soft illumination for evening use.
The Finished Deck
Gulf Coast Decks turned an underused backyard into an inviting outdoor space. The Lynn Haven family now has a spacious deck right outside their French doors, with plenty of room to host the whole family.
Warm composite boards, crisp white railings, and built-in lighting show what careful planning and homeowner input can produce.
